Phalanger much slower than PHP

I work with Phalanger since some years and develop little applications.
While working with big arrays and regular expressions I noticed that the compiled script (as exe file) runs much slower than the source interpreted by PHP. What could be reasons for this?
Current Versions:
Phalanger 2 Beta 4.
Apache 2 / PHP 5.1.6
