Tests disappear from the TestExplorer when re-executing

for the last couple of days, I've been trying to set up my PHPUnit suite with no real luck. The tests appear correctly in the TestExplorer when the solution is loaded, but when I try to re-run them they tend to disappear (discovery process was very slow at first, but I've excluded unneeded directories and it seems reasonable now). Do you have any ideas why this might be happening?
I'm using PHPTools in version 1.29.11015 and VS Community v15.9.2.
Any help would be appreciated as I'm thinking slowly about moving to PHPStorm.
