vs2012 hangs at startup

After a month of happily using PHP Tools (yes, I bought a license), suddenly visual studio hangs at the splash screen when PHP Tools is installed.

I can start VS in /SafeMode, remove PHP Tools, and VS starts normally. If I then re-install PHP Tools, VS goes back to hanging at splash screen.

Any suggestions on how to track down or fix this problem?

Thanks for the feedback! The today's update removed splash screen, but I'm quite sure that won't be reason for hanging. But anyway could you try to update?

What other extensions do you have? It's possible some of them are interfering with us.

I'll update. The splash screen I'm stuck at is the visual studio splash screen (gray rectangle), not something from PHP Tools.

When it hangs, my VS2012 has the following extensions:
Microsoft Web Developer Tools v1.2.40308.8
Nuget Package Manager v2.7.40911.225
PHP Tools for visual Studio v1.8.4608
Visual Studio Extensions for Windows Library for Javascript v1.0.9200.20789

I'm updating PHP Tools now.

There might be few possibilities.

1. Isn't there a modal dialog at the background blocking your input to Visual Studio main window? Sometimes Visual Studio popups a window, that is hidden behind the main window.

2. If you take a look at Task Manager, is CPU being used?

3. You can start visual studio with /Log parameter

. This enables logging into

"%AppData%\Microsoft\VisualStudio\11.0\ActivityLog.xml"

file. We can take a look at the file, and check for common issues with VS.

I've seen that problem before and looked for a modal dialog, but did not find one.

No. After the initial loading cpu settles down to 0%.

3. You can start visual studio with /Log parameter
